He might be one of the best riders in the world,

but she’ll give him the buck of his life.

WOULD YOU RATHER… Go through your entire life without ever falling in love?

OR… Have a rough-and-tumble cowboy stomp all over your heart with his sharpened spurs before riding off into the sunset like John f***ing Wayne?

Yeah, that happened. And frankly, I knew better. All cowboys are trouble. I’ve grown up around them my entire life, so I know how they operate. I’ve broken some of the toughest horses in the business. But for some reason, I found this thoroughbred impossible to resist.

A lot of good it did me too. Nothing but tears and comfort eating in the aftermath.

Suddenly, after a year away with no phone calls or texts to show for it, he’s back. He thinks we can pick up where we left off. But I’ve got news for him: His eight seconds with me are already up.

Little do I know, there’s a reason why he’s come back.
And it’s the absolute last thing I expect.

Review

I was so glad to catch up with the ladies of the Southern Hearts Club! I have loved their journeys to love thus far, and this story did not disappoint.

Quinn & Trace’s story is hot and fun. I couldn’t put the book down – their chemistry was sizzling! I liked that Trace exceeded Quinn’s expectations. He was possessive and sweet, with just the right amount of determination so Quinn could give him another chance. Quinn is a strong woman; she’s had setbacks, but she’s conquered them. Love is a different sort of battle than she’s used to dealing with, and Trace isn’t exactly the type of man she’s used to, either.

I really enjoyed this installment. All the rodeo & bronc riding lingo was fascinating. Calli was a bright star, too, and an absolute sweetheart. All the girls of the Southern Hearts club brought their usual fire to the book – especially Gretchen. I totally loved the epilogue. I look forward to more from Melanie Munton.

I recommend this book unreservedly.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

“You’re not Quinn Prescott.”

My arm drops. I’m not even sure how to react to that, let alone what to say. My inner brilliance comes up with, “I’m not? Then maybe I should call the DMV and tell them they made a mistake on my ID.”

His frown only deepens. “I don’t hire minors. Even if you’re legal to work, wages get muddy with minors and it’s not worth navigating.”

Uh…minor?

Cut him.

Is he actually serious? Sure, I’m short. Barely 5’1”. And yeah, I’m pretty small and petite. Always have been. I was teased relentlessly about it in grade school because I always looked years younger than everyone else in my class. Among their many nicknames for me, I think their favorite was “Pipsqueak Prescott.”

But a minor?

This dude must be trippin’ off gin and juice.

“I’m twenty-four,” I state very clearly and a little impatiently.

His expression clears…and there it is. However he was struggling to see me before, he’s somehow figured it out and is now looking at me like he suddenly has free rein to do so. As if he’s actually letting himself really look now.

“I’ve heard that Morty and Quinn Prescott are some of the best horse trainers around,” he says dubiously. “And that you, in particular, have tempered some of the most unmanageable mounts. They say you have a gift.”

My chest swells with enormous pride at the compliment and at the knowledge that influential individuals in our field are actually touting our expertise. But it’s the tone with which he says all of it that rankles on my already prickly nerves.

Disbelief.

I huff, planting my hands on my hips. “What exactly were you expecting? A two-hundred-pound cowhand with a sailor’s mouth and a wad of dip in her lip?”

I immediately realize I shouldn’t have said that. Because he seems to take it as an invitation to conduct a more thorough inspection of my body. From the top of my shoulder-length brown hair and diamond stud nose ring, to the tank top and untucked flannel shirt, to the denim shorts, and finally, to my lace-up, calf-high combat boots.

Despite the fact that I first sat a horse at three years old and have grown up in the rodeo business, cowboy boots have never been my thing. They aren’t a prerequisite to being an expert horsewoman, thank you very much. I just feel more comfortable this way.

“The combat boots were a shock,” he eventually says after his gaze once again finds mine.

The urge to grin hits me, but I instantly quash it. Something still has me on the defensive with this cowboy. Then again, I’m always on the defensive. With almost everyone. I can never seem to turn it off.

And something tells me that with this guy, I’m going to have to keep my back up.

Because if I so much as blink, he might try to get me on my back.

Melanie grew up in a small town in the Midwest. After marrying her husband, she decided she wanted to try coastal life because why not? A few months later, they moved to North Carolina where she discovered her passion for writing, and they never looked back. They are now enjoying life with their beautiful daughter in Savannah, GA and loving every minute with their little Georgia peach.

Melanie’s other passion is traveling and seeing the world. With anthropology degrees under their belts, she and her husband have made it their goal in life to see as many archaeological sites around the world as possible.

She has a horrible food addiction to pasta and candy (not together…ew). And she gets sad when her wine rack is empty.

At the end of the day, she is a true romantic at heart. She loves writing the cheesy and corny of romantic comedies, and the sassy and sexy of suspense. She aims to make her readers swoon, laugh out loud, maybe sweat a little, and above all, fall in love.

Review

This book is full of fire & sass with heavy helpings of steam – and I loved it! Full of witty banter and innuendo-laden verbal volleys, this book sucked me in from page 1 and didn’t want to let me go.

“Thou shalt not dwelleth on the nighteth thou debased thyself with thy boss.”

Gretchen has always played it safe in matters of the heart. Her story was one I looked forward to because, although she’s happy about the lives her friends lead, she’s been closed off from situations and emotions that make her feel too deeply. She’s seen love around – most of her girlfriends are all cozied up with their own sweethearts – but she doesn’t believe it could happen for her. After all, the man she could have sworn she had a connection with, and who gave her the best night of her life doesn’t remember her, and in another cruel turn of events, he’s her boss. When some more details emerge about that fateful night, things around the office get very heated. Gretchen is catapulted out of her comfort zone, and straight into a scenario she never experienced before, but one that might just change her perspective on everything.

I absolutely loved Gretchen & Ryder’s frenemy vibe. It worked in a way I didn’t think it would, and created an eagerness in me to see how, when and where they’d take the next step in their relationship. Ryder did well, learning and strategizing his way into Gretchen’s heart. Every time he bared a little piece of his soul to her and she’d clam up, I wanted to shake her so bad!

“Somehow, I’m going to find a way to make you mine…”

I loved this book, and can’t recommend it enough. I loved Myles’ contribution in ensuring that Ryder and Gretchen got together then stayed together. Gretchen’s other support system – Quinn, Harper & Sloane – are the type of girlfriends a girl wishes to have. They were there for her, but also called her out when she was being bullheaded. The epilogue is… just wonderful!

I cannot wait for book 4. This series is amazing. Grab it as soon as you can!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

“Why did you keep working here?”
My head snaps up, my confused gaze colliding with Ryder’s. “What?”
His expression is inscrutable, but it’s…intense. Whatever is going on behind his blue eyes must be a doozy. “If you thought you had slept with your boss, why didn’t you just quit?”
“You really want to talk about this now?” While sober?
I do confrontation best with some liquid courage.
He says nothing. Just watches me and waits.
I toss my pen onto the table. “Because if you didn’t remember it happening, then I could pretend like it never did, too. Clean slate.”
When his tongue slowly drags over his lower lip, I can’t tell if he likes that answer or not.
I roll my eyes with a huff. “Plus, not to add to your already inflated ego, this is the best market and ad firm in the area, despite your abhorrent people skills. It was a dream job for me.”
He taps his finger against the gleaming wood of the table. Tap, tap, tap. “You made it clear right from the start that you weren’t my biggest fan. Can I now assume that was because you were angry that I, from your perspective, didn’t remember us having sex?”
I have no answer.
What the hell am I supposed to say to that? I’m afraid the truth will make me sound like a naïve girl who became obsessed with a guy after only one night.
FYI, I didn’t.
Tap, tap, tap of his finger. “But being angry implies that you wanted me to remember.” A muscle pops in his jaw. “It was that good for you?”‘Kay, now I’m rattled.
Because now I know that I never slept with Ryder Colson. My long-time annoyance with him is unfounded, yet it feels as strong as ever and I don’t know what to do about it.
“We’re not talking about this,” I state firmly.
“Why not?”
Seriously? “Because now I know it wasn’t you. Which means that none of this is your business. We”—I gesture between us—“never slept together.”
Your brother and I did was the unspoken part of that sentence.
He hears it. And his nostrils flare.
“You’re right,” he admits gruffly. “It wasn’t me. Because if it had been me, I wouldn’t have forgotten a single detail. Like Myles obviously did.”
My face goes slack.
Did he just—? Did I hear him say—?
Ryder just took us into another realm. Another dimension. For the first time ever, he turned a sexual corner with me. One I thought we both silently agreed to never even approach, let alone maneuver around.
But he went there. He put it out there.
“Are you saying I’m not worth remembering?”
His face darkens, hardens. “Fuck, no. I’m saying anyone who doesn’t remember a night with you didn’t deserve to have you in the first place.”I just stare…
…mouth agape…
…and stare some more…
…and drool a little…
I shake my head. Like a dog. What the frig is happening right now?
Is Ryder saying that he wants a night with me? Or is this just some male chauvinist thing where he has to assert himself as the most virile man in the village because he senses another encroaching on his territory?
He does realize I’m not his territory, though, right?
I’m not his anything. Except employee.
“I’d say it’s for me to decide whether or not someone deserves me,” I eventually say, my voice oddly hoarse.
Tap, tap, tap. “You never answered my question.”
I know which one he’s talking about, but I still ask. “What question?”
Tap, tap, tap. “Was it good for you?”
I cross my arms over my chest, assessing him. Okay, fine. He wants to go there? Let’s do this. “We’re talking about your brother here. You really want to know?”
Tap…tap…tap. “He may not remember it, but you clearly do. It couldn’t have been the worst you’ve ever had.”
“What if I said it was the best?”
His face reflects a range of emotions in a matter of seconds that confuses the crap out of me. At first, his eyes crinkle in the corners, as if he’s pleased. Then they narrow to slits as banked fury emanates from them.
“Then I’d say that’s because I haven’t had you.”
My jaw unhinges like a snake’s.
He slowly nods, his eyes burning holes through me. “Yeah, duchess. I said that.”

Title: The Six Month Lease (Southern Hearts Club, Book 2)
Author: Melanie Munton
Genre: Romantic Comedy

Release Date: August 18, 2020
Cover Designer: L.J. Anderson at Mayhem Cover Creations
Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.

Never have I ever…moved in with a guy after dating him for only three weeks.
Just kidding. That’s exactly what I did.
And like most of you are probably thinking, it inevitably blew up in my face when we broke up two days after signing our lease.
Now, I’m stuck living with my ex. The same man who turned my life completely upside down in record time.
For. Six. Whole. Months.
It doesn’t matter how many times he flashes those abs at me after a shower, or how close his bedroom is to mine. I will resist him because he’s simply not the right guy for me.
But if I thought he’d done a number on me before, that’s nothing compared to what happens after I finally learn the secret he’s been keeping from me this entire time.

We touch down on the helipad near Patriot’s Point where we left from. The slab of concrete is on the edge of the now mostly empty parking lot, the park having closed over an hour ago. The sun has lowered in the sky, painting it a pink hue with notes of orange and gold.
West does some more talking into his radio headset while going through the process of shutting the aircraft down, flipping switches and pushing buttons. After I’ve had time to take stock of everything, I realize that I’m coming down from a small adrenaline rush. My chest is heaving, my heart still racing.
Now I really get West’s love for flying. It gives you a high like no other.
Helicopter heroin.
The blades slowly stop rotating until the whooping sound of their spinning eventually ceases. West removes his headphones and unstraps himself. Then he leans over and repeats the same process with me.
But once he has my straps unbuckled, he falls back into his own seat.
Slowly removes his aviators—
And spreads his legs.
It’s only then that I notice the tent between his legs.
“Does that happen every time you fly?” I ask, my gaze lasered in on his lap. “Or is that special for me?”
“It’s always for you,” he answers roughly. “That’s the fucking problem. Nothing does it for me anymore but you. The other night when you went out for drinks with the girls, my hand could barely get the job done, even though it was your naked body I pictured in my head the entire time. It’s like nothing will satisfy except the real you.”
I tsk my tongue. “Poor baby. What do you recommend for the pain?”
He unbuckles his belt, lowers his zipper. “I just gave you a ride.” He reaches inside his briefs, palming his erection. “Now, it’s your turn to give me a nice…long…ride.”
I lick my lips unconsciously, feeling my nipples pucker underneath my breezy, linen dress. “These windows aren’t exactly tinted.”
“No one’s around,” he growls, his face reddening with burning lust. “Plus, the cockpit is facing those trees. No one can see us at this angle.”
My pulse jumps at the word cock.
Wriggling his hips, he shoves his shorts and briefs down past his manhood, freeing his rod until it’s rising straight up in the air. When he wraps his fist around the base, I flashback to how he looked handling the control stick. Gripping it so tight, his fingers absently stroking it when he was letting the aircraft coast.
My God, I never thought helicopters could be so sexual.
I’ll never be able to look at any kind of control stick the same way again.
His eyes lower to my chest. “Come sit on your throne, princess.”

Loved it!

Melanie Munton delivered a fun & wonderful tale of second chances, acceptance, self-discovery, friendship & love. West & Harper were a couple I began rooting for from the first few pages, and I was so happy with their HEA. I loved their rivalry and enjoyed the pranks a lot!

I really liked West. He was a good friend and partner. He pushed Harper to step outside her mother’s expectations and live for herself. I was sold on him from their first interaction. Harper herself needed to work through some things, but eventually, she became the woman that West and her best friends knew she could be.

I’m loving this group of women so much! I can’t wait for book 3!

The hair on the back of my neck stands on end for about the seventeenth time in the past twenty minutes. So, I know that West is watching me from his position on the opposite end of the patio, where I know he’s been talking to a cute little redhead for the past four or so minutes.
Not like I’m keeping track or anything.
Not like he’s keeping track of me either.
His predatory eyes have not been stalking me through the crowd, his powerful, agile body moving like a lithe jaguar. Or a sleek panther. He’s not gnashing his teeth at every male who comes within five feet of me. And he’s certainly not resisting the urge to bound over here and piss a territorial circle around me.
He’s like a damn jungle cat.
Every man at this party might as well be his prey. His body language has signaled that he sees every walking penis as a threat. He might as well roar out his possessiveness and declare his rank in the food chain to the rest of the jungle.
When our gazes collide, something distinctly male and dominant gleams from his features. In that moment, I feel like I’ve been marked. Sirens start blaring in my head.
Danger! Danger! Danger!
“Would you please excuse me, Darren? I’m in need of a refill.”
He politely dips his head, just like the southern gentleman I’m sure his momma raised him to be. “Of course.”
Damn, he’s too nice. Why can’t I be into nice? I used to be. What the hell happened?
West.
That prick.
I find a quiet bubble where I can gather my thoughts at the far corner of the house. There’s enough seclusion that no one will accidentally stumble upon me, yet I can still hear the low hum of the party behind me. I’m staring down at my shadow in the grass when someone steps into the path of the patio lights, shrouding my secluded bubble in darkness.
Of course, he would follow me.
Because he’s become an expert at doing the exact opposite of what I want—like leaving me the hell alone. And the way his hulking shadow looms over mine is reflective of how little control I have over the situation.
West is like my own shadow.
Permanent. Trails in my wake. Undetachable.
When I twist around, I take a deliberate step back, needing that distance.
“Looks like I’ve caught myself a little social butterfly,” he grates in a low voice.
His eyes are narrowed. “Let’s talk, Harper.”
I push my hands into the pockets of my shorts, striving for confidence. “So talk.”
He snorts. “While I’ve loved your flare for exhibitionism in the past, let’s keep it private this time, shall we?”
He snags my arm and starts pulling me away from the patio before I can release the mile-long tirade poised on my tongue.
I am not an exhibitionist. We made out in an alley once. And he took some naked pictures of me on his phone once. Pictures he better have fucking deleted, or there’s going to be a nasty castration in his future.
Before we broke up, Sloane and Carter invited us over here for dinner a couple of times, so West knows his way around the property. Which is why he knows exactly where the lush gardens are and how to navigate their maze of foliage. Maintaining his hold on my arm, he drags us down the gravel path until the patio and party are no longer visible through the mass of palm fronds, hedges, and azalea bushes.
The only reason I’ve let him manhandle me up to this point is because I don’t want to make a scene at my friend’s party. I don’t want to be that couple. Not that we are a couple. Not even a little.
But no one can see us now.
And enough is enough.
I rip my arm out of his grip, my feet planting roots in the ground. “Knock it off, West. Isn’t this pissing contest routine of yours getting a little old?”
With his back facing me, he sucks in a deep breath and blows it out. The sight of his broad shoulders rising and falling with the movement mesmerizes me. I remember how sturdy those shoulders were whenever I used them as leverage to grind over his lap. It doesn’t help that the mint green button-down he’s wearing happens to be my favorite shirt of his.
A fact I know he remembers.
When his body whirls around to face me, his eyes are fierce and alert. “When have I ever given you the impression that I need to whip out a measuring stick just to get my dick wet? That pounding my chest and backing down every other man in the room somehow gets me off? Huh? When?
“Are you serious? Uh, the night at the house in front of Emerson, for one. Tonight, for two.”
“The night with Emerson was about me not wanting to witness, in my own home, how badly other men want to fuck you,” he snaps. “My own friends.”
I swallow.
The edges in his voice are sharp. Sharp enough to cut me if I don’t maintain my distance. Which proves difficult when he starts advancing on me, forcing me to retreat.
“And tonight is about me losing control because I’m being forced to finally accept that other men do want to fuck you.” My back hits a tree. “And will fuck you. At some point in the future, it’s going to happen.” He slaps his hands against the bark, his arms caging me in. “Because I’m no longer the one who is fucking you.”
