Review Tour: Ten Trends to Seduce Your BestFriend by Penny Reid ~ 5 stars

Title: Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend
Author: Penny Reid
Genre: Contemporary Romantic Comedy
Release Date: April 12, 2022
Winnifred Gobaldi and Byron Visser are not best friends.
Yes, they’ve known each other for years, but they’re not even friendly. Winnie considers them more like casual, distant acquaintances who find each other barely tolerable, especially when he’s being condescending (which is all the time).
The truth is, they have nothing in common. She’s a public school science teacher with stars in her eyes, and he’s a pretentious, joyless double PhD turned world-famous bestselling fiction author. She loves sharing her passion for promulgating women in STEM careers and building community via social media, and he eschews all socialization, virtual or otherwise. She’s looking for a side hustle to help pay down a mountain of student debt, and his financial portfolio is the stuff of fiduciary wet dreams. So why are they faking a #bestfriend relationship for millions of online spectators?
When a simple case of tit-for-tat trends between nonfriends leads to a wholly unexpected kind of pretend, nothing is simple. Sometimes, it takes a public audience to reveal the truth of private feelings, and rarely—very rarely—you should believe what you see online.
Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend is a full-length, complete standalone, adult contemporary romantic comedy.

This book will surprise you. It was nothing like I thought it would be, but it surpassed every expectation I had. This is a really interesting, captivating read. Byron & Winnie were a couple I enjoyed reading about.

Winnie is a sweet soul. A full-time schoolteacher, she uses social media to introduce young persons to science. She gets offered an opportunity to extend her reach and increase her income, but is told that her follower count is too low to meet the initial application criteria. Her best friend suggests using TikTok challenges with a romantic undertone to spice things up. Despite the whole ‘fakeness’ of it, Winnie agrees. Her original partner flakes at the last minute, and her practise video with Byron – the man she considers most irritating and infuriating – gets posted accidentally. With no choice but to continue the charade with Byron, she braces herself to tolerate his company. Surprisingly, she finds herself not having to pretend to have a good time with him as the two begin spending more time together.

“This feels like fiction.” His stare was absorbed, a little frantic, like I might disappear if he blinked. “This feels like something I’ve conjured from my imagination.”

“Because I surprised you?”

“No.” He pulled in a shaky breath, his eyelashes flickering. “Because it’s perfect.”

It is impossible not to fall for Byron, even though the story is told mostly through Winnie’s POV. We do hear Byron’s side – albeit briefly – but he shines throughout the book. His personality is layered and a bit complicated, but his loyalty, devotion and consideration for Winnie made me love him harder. This slow-burn enemies-to-lovers is one I wholeheartedly & unreservedly recommend. Please don’t be intimidated by the page count. You will love it, and like me, probably be smiling long after you read ‘The End’.

Two best friends reunite and realise that friendship + love = the best kind of life.

Phoebe & Archer’s romantic relationship begins as a middle finger to her ex who cheated on her with her then best friend, but soon unexpected and strong feelings begin to develop between them. As they figure out how their new feelings affect their renewed relationship, Archer must also lay some of the demons in his past to rest.

I liked that this book was pretty simple, and that there were no extended or elaborate secret-keeping maneuvers. Archer & Phoebe were uncomplicated, easy-to-like characters, too. This slow-burn, yet steamy friends-to-lovers romance is one you’ll enjoy.

Release Blitz: Winning Mr. Wrong by C.W. Farnsworth ~ 4 stars

Winning Mr. Wrong by C.W. Farnsworth is live!

Mr. Wrong /ˈmistər rôNG/ noun: the polar opposite of the perfect man. “A prime example of Mr. Wrong is a certain quarterback incapable of letting a grudge go.

A reality television dating show was never part of my post-college plan. Nearly broke, unemployed, recently dumped me let my best friend Haley decide it should be.

They say don’t make life-altering decisions after five shots of tequila, and I now believe whoever coined that phrase.

We all have rough patches, right? When nothing sounds better than snuggling on the couch in your favorite sweats inhaling chocolate?

Well, I’ve signed up for the glamorous version. Designer dresses. Poolside lounge chair. Open bar.

Unfortunately, my free vacation takes a turn from mildly humiliating to full-on mortification when the identity of the man I’m meant to woo is revealed.

What are the chances he’s the quarterback I accidentally insulted on national television six months ago? Turns out they’re pretty good.

Famous athletes receive plenty of press coverage. Odds he remembers my constructive criticism? Turns out they’re also pretty good.

Thanks to a one-way plane ticket and a thirty-page contract I probably should have read before signing, I’m forced to follow through. To embark on a journey around the world with a man who hates me and the twenty-four other women he’s “dating” that will be forever enshrined on film for millions to watch weekly.

All to win Mr. Wrong.

Download today or read for FREE with Kindle Unlimited!

Ryan is cajoled into a reality television show by his agent. Expecting just the usual run of women clamoring for his attention, he’s very shocked when the woman who ranted against him during one of their last hometown games is a contestant. And he is quite surprised when, instead of hating her, he begins to look forward to their every interaction.

Embry isn’t having a good life at the moment. Unemployed and freshly dumped, when her friend announces that she signed her up for a reality dating show, she is not thrilled. Resigned, however, to treat the taping as a free vacation while she looks for a job, she is horrified to find the lead is the man she trash-talked on national television. But as their snarks turn into sparks, Embry has to sort through what is camera-ready and what isn’t.

This was a fun, yet sort of realistic take on a reality show-based romance. I don’t watch reality TV, but I enjoyed this read. I laughed out loud a few times, and I found myself unable to put down the book until I finished it completely.

I recommend it. Fans of reality television shows will love it as much as would non-fans.

Release Blitz: Ruthless Player by R.C. Stephens ~ 4 stars

Ruthless Player by R.C. Stephens is now live!

Hockey winger and campus hottie, Cole Davis, might be an MVP with the ladies, but I’m not falling for a player…not with medical school on the line.

With our best friends dating, our forced proximity is inevitable.

That doesn’t mean I have to like it—or the way he makes me feel. Like I’m missing out and there’s more to life than sitting on the sidelines.

It only takes one moment of weakness to remind myself why I should have stayed away from Cole.

He might be a ruthless player, but nothing about this is a game.

Holland Donovan knows exactly what she wants out of life—and it isn’t me.

She’s not looking for any distractions, and I’m a one-night kind of guy, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting her.

From the first electric kiss—I know one night will never be enough.

I just need to convince her that I’m in it for the long haul—this isn’t just about scoring.

On the ice I’m a pro at blocking shots and stealing passes, but when it comes to Holland the rules change.

I won’t stop fighting for her, for us, until I make her mine.

Download today or read for FREE with Kindle Unlimited!

Cole & Holland star in this slow-burn sports romance.

Holland is on-track to med school. She has it all planned out, and has been putting in all the hard work, yet she knows all work and no play make her a dull, boring human. But when she tries to relax, Cole Davis, the best friend of her best friend’s boyfriend, seems to be there, antagonizing her. But underneath all the sniping and sarcasm runs an undercurrent of attraction, but she’s not about to become Cole’s latest conquest. Holland knows that relationships don’t last. People always leave, and the ones you think have your back never do.

Cole can’t figure out why he can’t accept that Holland and him aren’t a good idea. She doesn’t want him around and everyone knows it. But when they realise that their lives are irrevocable intertwined in more ways than one, Cole knows he has to fight harder than ever to prove to Holland that she’s more than just a candidate for a one-night stand.

This book is a quick read, but the slow burn aspect of it made it seem a bit longer. There are moving, heartfelt moments in the book as Cole & Holland discover more about themselves. My issue is that, in my opinion, there were a few unfinished threads/storylines in the book. The book set up some drama, but it just never panned out.

I am, however, looking forward eagerly to book 3. I can’t wait!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Review: Handle With Care by A.N. Verebes ~ #4stars

Handle With Care by [A.N. Verebes]

What would you do if you had twenty minutes alone with your idol?

Gemma Fox is a self-confessed unlucky-in-love geek treating herself to a weekend at a pop-culture convention on Australia’s sunny Gold Coast.

Drawn there by the temptation of seeing her celebrity crush, Everett Rhodes, the last thing she expects is to wind up trapped in an elevator with him. Parting ways, Gemma has no reason to suspect that their paths will cross again. After all, he’s a celebrity. She’s just a fan who lives on the other side of the planet.

Besides, her life is not a rom-com. (At least, that’s what she keeps telling herself.)

However, life has other plans. And Everett -stupidly charming, frustratingly handsome Everett- is hard to resist.

But when things get complicated, Gemma and Everett are both faced with the same dilemma:

How can they make things work when they live in completely separate worlds?

Barnes & Noble:

Bearded man in suit
Kissing woman and man
phones, separated kiss

Gemma is beside herself when she gets to share an elevator ride with her celebrity crush, Everett Rhodes. After a less than sophisticated sojourn in said elevator, she is convinced that they will never meet again. But after Everett makes an effort to extend their acquaintance, and seems to be just as into her as she is into him, her visit to Pop!Con takes on a different feel.

I liked the book. It’s a sort of slow burn, with lots of steamy tension. Gemma & Everett’s romance story captivated me. I found myself eager to see what happened next as Gemma & Everett went from strangers to friends, to lovers in a way that seemed natural. For a debut book, it really knocked my expectations out of the water, and having an Australian vibe was another plus. With lots interesting secondary characters and intriguing scenarios, this is a book I recommend.

I voluntarily read & reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, via Voracious Readers.

Download today or read for FREE with Kindle Unlimited!

Max Grant is finally brave enough to pursue his attraction to Cress Taylor 20 years after a fleeting moment at University. But her wariness and distrust, and his own troubled past as an MI6 operative aren’t his only obstacles. Someone is willing to go to great lengths to ensure that Cress’ reputation dies a fiery death. Max has to hope the fire doesn’t expunge their fledgling relationship – and Cress – too.

If you are looking for action-packed, danger-filled suspense, this book is not it. The villain was obvious from the beginning. The author’s use of descriptive prose is great, but it sort of worked against the development of the romance itself. Cress & Max sort of just seem to fall together against the backdrop of threats, rather than fall in love in spite of the threats.

I liked Max. He was upfront with his feelings towards Cress, and did his best to be what he felt she needed. I just wish there was more time devoted to their actual romance. I especially liked that the couple was older. And I liked their meet-cute and the fact that neither had forgotten the other even after so many years.

Looking for a clean/fade-to-black slow burner romance? At First Sight will definitely please you.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Release Date: September 28

I haven’t seen him in over a decade, but Joshua Luca can still get to me. And I hate it.

At twenty-nine, I’m a doctor and I’ve travelled the world, but just the thought of him has me sliding my sweaty palms down my jeans and wishing I could steady my racing heartbeat.

Joshua was an almost obsession until, at seventeen, he cost me my future. In one night, I grew up and let go of my silly crush.

My infatuation for Joshua is dead and buried. Forever.

It doesn’t matter that he’s my new flat mate.

Or that he still has that same sexy smile.

I barely notice how that, despite his billions, he’s the kindest man I know.

Or that when he touches me, a thousand tiny fireworks explode all over my body.

I’m completely over Joshua Luca.

Grab Your Copy Here!

In a sweet romance, Louise Bay gives us a story of two childhood acquaintances/friends who reconnect via interfering mothers.

Both Joshua & Hartford have emotional scars that become apparent when their relationship changes. Their romance blossoms awkwardly, but segues into the sort that makes you wistful. Their reconnection starts with reforming their friendship and soon, Hartford’s unrequited crush on Joshua has new life, and Joshua is seeing Hartford in a completely new light. But Hartford isn’t sure that Joshua is truly into her, and Joshua worries that he may never be enough for her.

I recommend this read. Though the story is more of a slow-burn, the story is well-paced, and there is no hiding the heated connection between Hartford and Joshua as they build on their old childhood association. The combined character growth by the end had me smiling, with a warm feeling in my chest.

“This was my not-so-fake date. This was an old, never-forgotten crush. This was my best friend.”

I enjoyed this standalone read. The group of friends is intriguing, and this installment, more than ever, has me eager to read the others that came before in the series.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Attempting to escape the pressure of a lawsuit while struggling with the idea of the man he’s become, Caleb escapes to New York to hang out with his friend, Dex Truitt. While visiting his office, he catches a glimpse of a woman and though he doesn’t know if he’ll ever see her again, he can’t shake her from his memory. From her first day on the job, she is entranced by Mac. He seems to prove that there are decent men in the world, but there’s still something that seems off. When the truth comes out, will she still think of him as irresistible?

This slow burn, office romance was a good read. Caleb went above and beyond to get to know Geneva, and it was easy to forgive him as his growth became evident as the story progressed.

I recommend this book. You’ll enjoy the banter, humor and all-round good feels in it.

There are people who love being in love. Then there are people who love everything about love, from cute-meet to falling to failing and ultimately, the happily ever after. Those people, like Aliza Mann, grow up to be romance authors. It is no surprise that Aliza decided to write romance since she grew up reading, library card at the ready, every chance she had. The writing part just took a while since she obtained a business degree and worked her way up to a leadership role in Healthcare. Romance, though, is where her heart lies. In 2011, she decided to take those dreams seriously, launching her writing career. Since that time, she has written many books in the urban fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary subgenres of romance. In addition to her love of writing, she enjoys reading, Netflix marathons, golf, and yoga. She has three children, including her son-in-law, and recently welcomed her first grandchild. She shares a home in Michigan with her handsome knight, or in contemporary terms – engineer, and a college student who only comes home for laundry services and to eat something made on an actual stove. She wouldn’t have it any other way. You can find her on Facebook, Twitter or via email.

Title: Tempting Talon
A Cocky Hero Club Novel
Author: Renee Dyer
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 22, 2021
Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward are excited to bring you the Cocky Hero Club: original works from various authors inspired by Keeland and Ward’s New York Times bestselling Cocky Bastard series.
For so long, football was my life, but in one moment, it was ripped away from me forever. Forced down another path, I opened one of the hottest nightclubs in Miami.
The Takedown became my new playing field. Women threw themselves at me, and I happily caught them, tossing them away as quickly as I could, sated and with a smile on their faces.
Until the night I caught Dixie Sinclair falling off her barstool.
I should have walked away.
She was precisely the type of woman I had avoided my whole life. She was stuck up, judgmental as hell, and thought she was too good for everyone. Everything I typically wanted nothing to do with.
One look into her blue eyes had me questioning my assumptions about her. Dixie was a puzzle that needed to be solved, and I was willing to forget years of self-preservation to help her piece herself back together.
I wanted her to be mine.
I needed her to be mine.
She was the game I was willing to play for the rest of my life.
Tempting Talon is a slow burn/millionaire/sports romance inspired by Playboy Pilot.
Free in Kindle Unlimited
Talon walked away from professional football when he was a star. His priorities changed and he opened a nightclub in Miami, instead. He could have any woman he wants, but after one night – albeit a short one – with Dixie, he can’t get her out of his head.

Dixie isn’t a risk taker, but Talon makes her want to be brave. As she struggles with her family issues, she finds him to be a good friend, but she worries that her desire to be more than friends, as well as his reputation, would ensure that he doesn’t stick around in her life for very long.

This read was my first by Renee Dyer. It was one that was different but quite engaging, and I found that I couldn’t put it down. It was a book that was seamless; the plot, the characters, everything was just right.

I recommend this read. Talon is totally swoon-worthy, and you will find yourself cheering for Dixie as she finds herself.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Born and raised in New Hampshire, Renee Dyer spent much of her youth hidden under a weeping willow, writing and whispering her stories to its wispy branches. She soon began sharing them with friends and family, and this crazy thing happened: they enjoyed them. Entertaining others filled her heart, in the same way, sharing her stories with the willow tree did. Having an audience unlocked her desire to be a writer. Today, she lives that dream and the joy it brings with her husband and sons.
