Poppy Anderson was nailing her sophomore year at Brighton University. She liked her classes, had the greatest best friend, and was finally ready to start dating again. Or she was … until her ex, Mike, transferred to Brighton and started exchanging long stares and inside jokes that Poppy thought he’d forgotten.

Paxton Lawson was long ago labeled ‘The Golden Boy.’ Starting quarterback and team captain at Brighton University, his future was brighter than the sun until a short path of indiscretions tarnished his name and potentially his future. When he learns that his sister’s best friend, Poppy, has backed herself into a corner and is facing as many doubts and uncertainties as he is, Paxton suggests the biggest ruse of the year: a fake relationship.

Writing the rules was supposed to make things clear, defined, and definite. Only, their relationship becomes increasingly complex as the lines are blurred, days become weeks, and kisses for show begin to feel like confessions.

Can lies lead to truths? And what happens when the rules they wrote begin to expire?

One lie,

Two hearts,

And fifteen years of friendship are about to be put to the ultimate test.

This is the last book in The Dating Playbook series and can be enjoyed as a complete standalone.

Review

Paxton has been on the periphery of Poppy’s life for as long as she could remember. All of her memories of him are good, but she doesn’t think she knows him all that well. When she panics and ships them together, she begins to learn a lot more than just College Survival 101.

“My feelings were so much simpler and more manageable when he was just Rae’s brother.”

Paxton genuinely likes Poppy, his sister’s best friend. A gentleman at heart, and a man willing to go the extra mile to keep the peace, he offers to be Poppy’s fake boyfriend in exchange for her help with getting through the pressures of the last year of college. Their friendship grows, blossoms and develops into a relationship that surpasses all their expectations.

“You’re my favorite rule. You always have been, and you always will be.”

I enjoyed this romance. It reminds us that sometimes, the things we are searching the hardest for are right in front of us; we just need to look. Also, sometimes, we need to forget being nice to some people because they just weaponize it and continue to hurt us.

I loved how Paxton paid attention to Poppy. He was still her friend throughout. Poppy’s introversion had her feeling awkward and out-of-sorts initially, but as she just relaxed, and reduced her tendency to overthink, things just sort of flowed for them.

I recommend this read. It’s full of humor, love and unshakeable friendships – things we all need.

I enjoyed the books of this series that I read. The epilogue here was awesome, reminding me that I really need to catch up on the first three now.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Well, if it isn’t Falcon Malone.
In the panty-dropping flesh.
My older brother’s best friend and subject of my every teenage fantasy.
He taught me how to kiss.
Then he walked away.
I tried to keep him buried in the past, but he’s been in every kiss since.
Tethering me to unattainable dreams.
Well, he might have taught me how to kiss, but now I’m going to teach him how to… well, you get the idea.
I’ll tempt fate, tantalize Falcon, and resurrect a fierce hunger between the two of us.
And then I’ll be the one to walk away.
I left my best friend’s little sister, Emory Brooks planted firmly in my past.
Or so I’d thought.
Those pink girl-next-door lips of hers belonged in our sleepy hometown where I couldn’t reach them.
I’d taught her how to kiss…specifically, how to kiss me.
Then I’d left.
She deserved better than my tattered soul.
Now she’s here. All grown up. In my neighborhood. In my pub.
And the subject of my friend’s desire.
My job…charm the ladies while my man goes for the prize.
But not when the prize is Emory. He can have anyone else…but never her.
I’m the wingman… and I’m about to go rogue.

REVIEW
On the heels of Cocky Corporal, Casey Hagen delivers angst-filled Devious Wingman.

What was I supposed to do when I was certain, positive with every fiber of my being, my other half was the one person I couldn’t have?”

On the same day she’s been fired, Emory’s past makes a swift, fury-filled return in the form of Falcon Malone. Her brother’s best friend, he’s The One that she compares every other man against – but he doesn’t seem to want her in the way she wants him. Striking up a flirtation with one of his best friends seem like the best next thing to draw him out. Little does Emory know: she may just have bitten off more than she could chew.

I’ve loved you for so damn long I don’t remember a time when I didn’t.”

Running from a past that has imprisoned him, Falcon Malone has never truly understood love. He’s felt it, but is too tortured to fully realise that love is not just the thought of home, but that it’s laden with hope, trust and the acceptance of flaws. Guilty of the way his actions may have shaped Emory’s past, he’s closed off himself from happiness. But as Emory keeps popping up after a decade of silence, he soon recognises that life without her is worth every bit of pain he endures.

I enjoyed this read, even more as it flowed sort of right after Cocky Corporal. I loved Falcon & Emory’s banter, but also enjoyed Soraya & Graham’s innuendo-filled conversations, too. I’d like to recommend this as another great addition to the Cocky Hero Club series.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

She loves writing stories about real people, with complicated histories, relatable everyday problems, and giving them the hard-won happily-ever-afters they deserve.

What’s the actual last thing you’d ever want your executive assistant to see you doing the morning after you had hot, drunk, angry sex with her in a terrible hotel room? Dancing around your terrible hotel room to “Come and Get Your Love” like Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy—naked? Yeah. Me too.
And yet, here we are.
This isn’t even the most unprofessional thing that’s happened between us in the past couple of weeks.
The first was when I agreed to let her have Christmas Day off, but only if she goes with me to three family gatherings as my fake girlfriend.
The second was when she caught me belting out a Christmas song on stage in the awful hotel bar.
The third was the hot, drunk, angry sex that followed, but I do not regret it.
And she hasn’t even found out the real reason I need her by my side this holiday season.
I need to pull it together before I do the dumbest, most unprofessional thing of all—fall head over heels in love with the only assistant who’s lasted more than a month at the job and claims to hate me and my moods more than she hates eggnog.

REVIEW
I cannot even begin to describe how in love I am with this book! Maddie & Declan are definitely a couple you should be super excited to get to know.

For two months, Declan & Maddie have been working together, and for those two months they’ve been attracted to each other, but haven’t done anything but drive each other mad. Over the Christmas holidays, Declan gets Maddie to fake-date him at family functions. It gets as complicated – and hilarious – as one would expect, but also SO romantic, too.

With a wonderful cast of characters, Kayley Loring delivered a funny, steamy and sweet romance that I eagerly devoured in one sitting. I loved both sides of the family, and would absolutely love to read Eddie’s story next.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

AUTHOR BIO
Before writing steamy romantic comedy novels, Kayley Loring got a BFA in creative writing from a Canadian university and had a fifteen-year career as a screenwriter in Los Angeles (under a different name). She mostly wrote PG-13 family comedies that studios would pay her lots of money for and then never make into movies. In 2017 she decided to move to the Pacific Northwest and write about all the fun stuff that she wasn’t allowed to write about in those PG-13 scripts. Now she’s breathing cleaner air and writing dirtier words. It’s an adjustment she’s happily getting used to.

Three reasons why rebound s-e-x with my hot neighbor is a very bad idea.

1. My life is already complicated enough
2. He knows I wear Batman undies (please don’t ask)

I know that’s more than three. But it still didn’t stop me.

Review

I thought I loved Bolivia, but James & Miranda have stolen the show.

Miranda is young, yet cannot be called naive. Still reeling from a breakup, she’s not eager to be in a new relationship, yet James somehow manages to sneak past her walls – repeatedly – through clever manipulations. She’s worried by what society might think about them, but something always keeps her coming back 😉

I liked James immediately. I saw James as the deeper feeler/thinker of the group when I first met him in “To Have and Hate”. He was also one to persist until he got what he wanted. These two personality traits were amplified in “(Not) The One”. The mix of confidence & sophistication he had going on was sexy. I also loved the way he would draw Miranda in with humor. He had a sort of wit that made me wish he was real.

I recommend this steamy yet sweet-in-its-own-way romance. I look forward to reading Griff’s story.

Review

The conclusion to Zia & Theo’s story lived up to the hype.

I had several suspects in mind, but I was surprised that I was way off base when the real perpetrator was revealed. Again, I must praise Nana Malone for creating characters that are so multi-dimensional. Even her villains are admirable! Her main characters are endearing, and I look forward to meeting up with them in a future story.

Picking up from the cliffhanger in book 1, Theo’s secret is out and he fears Zia’s wrath, but he still needs to figure out who wants him dead. Their journey to a HEA is filled with surprises, danger & intrigue, but is still a pretty sweet & fun romance.

I recommend this book, and invite you to add it – & Nana Malone – to your TBR, stat!

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Excerpt

Zia…
Liar.
Conman.
Duplicitous fuck.

As I leaned against the wall of the makeshift medical room we’d set up in the
penthouse, I thought about the two versions of the man I had started to fall for.

Two versions of one of the richest men in the world. One of them was a billionaire, Derrick Arlington. And the other was someone I didn’t know.

And currently, one of them was bleeding all over what looked like a massage table.

I’d fallen in love with a mirage. None of what I’d felt had been real.

As the doctor Royal Elite had on call worked to patch up Derrick, I watched them both. The resemblance was beyond uncanny. They were freaking identical.
No. You can tell them apart.

Right now, I could. But without the scruff and long hair, would I be able to?

I forced myself to take a closer look. To focus on what was different, what stood out.

For starters, Theo, or whoever the hell he was, had broken his nose. There was a slight bump in the ridge. It was barely noticeable, but it distinguished them. That and the eyes, that stormy gray, surrounded by thick lashes. They were the same shape and color, but Arlington’s were a little closer together. Or maybe a little wider. It was hard to tell now as he had a cut above one and it was nearly swollen shut.

Heightwise, they looked about the same, but I couldn’t be sure. They weighed about the same. And I only knew that because I’d helped drag Arlington off the beach with Theo, who had mumbled some bullshit about me not finding out that way. And sorry, sorry blah blah blah. If I was being honest, the shock had rendered me deaf and dumb right then.

But once the crisis was over, my voice was back, and I had a shit ton to say. Starting with Liar. Conman. Duplicitous fuck.

It didn’t matter what form of explanation came out of his mouth. As far as I was concerned, he was full of shit.

Review

I laughed, swooned and fumed while reading this book – I really enjoyed reading it.

We meet Royal first, and from the beginning, I rooted for her. She had such an unhappy home situation, yet, she was determined to succeed & beat all the odds. She clearly looked for the good in others.

Justice was a little harder to get a read on at first, but he was so sweet to Royal that I had no issue liking him wholeheartedly, eventually. He was willing to put himself in the line of fire for her repeatedly, and nobody got to hurt her under his watch.

I loved the balance between heat, humour and drama that the author created. As with previous Lani Lynn Vale’s books, we meet another set of highly entertaining secondary characters. I wouldn’t mind reading their stories one day.

I recommend this book, and the series so far.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

Review

I enjoyed this novel. I was a bit sad to finish reading it.

I haven’t read any other Steel novels, but I think that I am a fan now after reading Bella’s story. I laughed a lot in the initial stages, and I loved the interactions between the characters.

Is it possible to look at someone and know you want them in your life permanently? Yes.”

I liked Bella’s backbone, and Tags’ determination to make her his. I also adored Luna.

Along with the humor is a lot of emotion that would grip you, ensuring that you won’t want to put this book down until it’s over.

I recommend this book – you will enjoy it!

Release Blitz: Flutter (Nash Brothers #3) by Carrie Aarons ~ 5 stars

𝐅𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 (𝐍𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞):

He can’t stand her, and best believe, the feeling is mutual.
Her life is the complete opposite of what he desires.
So, why can’t they keep their hands off each other?

Forrest Nash is a smug know-it-all. With his brains, ridiculous good looks and penchant for disobeying the laws of both the police and the dark web, Fawn Hill’s resident genius is cockier than any man Penelope Briggs has ever encountered. It doesn’t help that their six-year age difference makes him completely ineligible in her eyes. Add in the fact that he doesn’t want marriage or babies, and that should eliminate him from the dating pool forever. But it doesn’t mean she can’t sleep with him. Once. Or twice. Or ten times. Against all logic, though, Forrest seems to be sneaking into her heart at the same time he’s sneaking into her bed.

Penelope Briggs is one bossy, obnoxious woman. With three young children, a calendar full of school drop-offs and sports, and enough emotional baggage to fill an airplane, this widow is definitely not what Forrest Nash is looking for. And yet, he can’t get enough of the maddening bombshell. But as their hook-ups become a constant, so does his involvement in Penelope’s life. The things he swore he never wanted, love and kids, seem to be the only things on his mind. And when an attack from his part of the cyber world threatens her safety, he’ll have to admit his feelings for the woman he’d do anything to protect. What started as a convenient friends-with-benefits situation is quickly growing wings. Even if both parties are trying hard to ignore the flutter.

Review

Okay.

Carrie Aarons needs to stop making the Nash heroes so freaking amazing! Though I love them all, I think Forrest will be my favourite out of the quartet. Honestly, she blew my expectations out of the water with this one.

Forrest is the most sarcastic, crude Nash brother. The one that hides behind the façade of someone who doesn’t really care about anything or anyone. Yet, he does care – about the one woman who’s had his heart ever since he was a preteen. Too bad she doesn’t really SEE the man he’s become.

Forrest hides behind his intelligence & sharp wit; it saved him as a child, and it protects him now as an adult. Yet, underneath his crass exterior, is the guy who looks out for everyone.

We’re like oxygen and flames. Matches and gasoline. And when we mix for just long enough, we burn the whole place down.”

Penelope Briggs feels overwhelmed by life. The escape she seeks comes in the last form she expected – Forrest Nash – her nemesis. Yet the charge she gets from their every encounter begins to translate to more than just sexual chemistry, something she never thought would happen for her again.

From the first time I met Penelope, I admired her. Life has knocked her around a few times, yet she’s remained as strong as she could. I love how passionate & opinionated she is.

I really loved this book. There were many sweet moments interspersed with the love/hate fireworks the couple created. The layer of suspense only enhanced what was already a well-written enemies-to-lovers romance.

I can’t wait to read Falter, though I am already dreading the end of this series.

I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.

AUTHOR BIO

Author of romance novels such as The Tenth Girl and Privileged, Carrie Aarons writes books that are just as swoon-worthy as they are sarcastic. A former journalist, she prefers the love stories of her imagination, and the athleisure dress code, much better. When she isn’t writing, Carrie is busy binging reality TV, having a love/hate relationship with cardio, and trying not to burn dinner. She lives in the suburbs of New Jersey with her husband, daughter and Lab/Great Dane rescue.

Review Blast: Hide Your Crazy (KPD Motorcycle Patrol #1) by Lani Lynn Vale ~ 5 stars

I’m kind of a lady, but definitely more of a weirdo.
Hearing the woman at the table behind him say that to her friend should’ve turned Logan Gibbs off.
It doesn’t. In all honesty, it only makes him listen harder.
He’s had enough weird in his life to last a lifetime. The last thing his complicated life needs is a woman in it who has no clue what color you get when you mix yellow and blue together.
Yet, her obvious blonde moments aren’t enough to deter him. Nor is her lack of finger-painting skills.
I’m a cop, not a miracle worker.
Hearing the man in the group behind her say that should’ve had Katy Roberts running away as fast as her feet would carry her. Katy’s father’s a cop, and it’s hard enough to live her life with Daddy trying to dictate her every move. She needs another cop in her life like she needs yet another thing to go wrong.
To add onto that, she can’t find a job, has no love life to speak of, and has to
be the oldest known virgin in Kilgore, Texas.
Yet, when she sees his painting—a painting that resembles a piece of the male
anatomy more than the lighthouse they were supposed to be painting—she knows that she has to give him a chance.
The very last thing the two of them expect is for her father and his boss to force them to marry after an eensy-weensy accident. An accident that, surprisingly, both of them want.

Review

This was a crazy, sweet story that I absolutely couldn’t get enough of.

From beginning to end, Logan & Katy’s story had me in stitches. The story was so crazy that I had no choice but to ignore my regular life and immerse myself in the book til it was over.

First impressions were so not lasting with Logan. He turned out to be very different than what I was originally led to believe. He had every opportunity to be a bitter man, yet he held his head high, even though everyone had the wrong idea about him. Katy is a sweet soul – a bit too trusting, but a sweetheart for sure. She’s had a hard life, but unlike Logan, she has support.

The crazy that they both try to hide will stir up a storm that neither are prepared for, yet entertain the reader, as it did me.

Review: #1 Crush (#1 Series, #1) by T. Gephart ~ 5 stars

SYNOPSIS

Tia Monroe was smart, sassy and successful. Sure, she could get a little crazy at times—life around Tia was never boring—but that was part of her appeal. And while she didn’t see herself as ‘classically beautiful’, she had no shortage of options in the boyfriend department. She just hadn’t found one who held her interest.

Until she laid eyes on Eric Larsson, and then it was lust at first sight.

He packed the perfect mix of smoldering sexy and unapologetic cool into his blond-haired, blue-eyed, ridiculously hot six-foot-four frame. One smile from him was enough to twist her insides, making her girlie bits tingle in the most delicious way. But it wasn’t just his looks, he was smart and funny—charming in the most a-dork-able way.

The only problem was . . . Tia had never actually met him.

Eric Larsson was one of Hollywood’s hottest movie stars, rising to the top of his game and leaving a trail of disintegrated panties in his wake. Tia’s were no exception—but she wasn’t delusional. Love, marriage and happily-ever-after were not part of her fantasy; she just wanted to meet him. Just one time. One time. Confident that just seeing him in the flesh would get him out of her system.

So, with her resolve steeled, Tia set off on a quest to make it happen while avoiding her mug shot being splayed across the five o’clock news.

The journey no doubt will make for one hell of a story.

Review

I love a crazy romance – and T. Gephart has delivered one that I wholeheartedly enjoyed.

I laughed so much while reading this – my family is convinced I am the crazy one! I had so much fun with Tia & Eric’s romance. There is no part of this book or plot that I hated or wished to be different. I loved the secondary characters, too, as their presence underscored and highlighted the plot so well.

The thing I really liked about Tia was that she totally owned her crazy. It was straight-up sexy and endearing, too, at the same time. While you’ll be laughing your butt off at Tia, you’ll also be admiring her guts. She went all out to meet her larger-than-life, couldn’t-possibly-be-human #1 crush – screw the consequences!

Eric Larsson is very human and very attracted to Tia Monroe. Intrigued by her quirks, he falls for her and even when he could have hurt her, he was the perfect gentleman. I loved that about him.

T. Gephart’s writing sucked me in from the very first page and didn’t let me go for a very long time. Not even after I reached the end of the book. The characters feel like friends you’d like to hang out with over and over again, and I definitely can’t wait to read as many of their individual stories as possible.
